President Xi’s US Visit Aimed at Stabilizing Markets and Geopolitics, Say Experts
Chinese President Xi Jinping departed Beijing on Wednesday for a three-day state visit to the United States at the invitation of US President Donald Trump, marking their second summit in six months. The visit, scheduled from September 23 to 25, is hailed by Chinese state media and Beijing’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a major milestone aimed at enhancing bilateral relations, global peace, and strategic development between the two global powers.
The high-stakes agenda centers on direct talks between the two leaders regarding key international issues, trade relations, and geopolitical stability. Mr. Qian Feng, a senior researcher and director at Tsinghua University’s National Strategy Institute, noted that this summit carries profound strategic significance. He emphasized that direct communication between the leaders will help clarify vital national interests and red lines while strengthening institutional mechanisms to manage bilateral differences more effectively.
In addition to high-level diplomacy, economic dependencies and joint global governance remain primary focal points. Mr. Qian Feng observed that reaching new cooperation agreements could deepen mutual economic ties, offering a constructive counter-narrative to long-term economic decoupling. Furthermore, both nations are expected to explore shared responsibilities on global governance matters, including public health initiatives, artificial intelligence regulation, and broader international public safety interests.
Despite optimistic expectations, structural trade hurdles, such as bilateral tariffs, stringent export controls, and supply chain barriers, continue to pose significant friction. Overcoming these economic impediments while rekindling curtailed educational, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges will be essential for sustained stability. Reaffirming this intent, China’s Foreign Ministry stated that Beijing remains fully committed to strengthening dialogue, properly managing differences, and contributing to global peace and mutual prosperity.
