Prime Minister Directs Nationwide Cleanliness Drives to Prevent Dengue

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged authorities to increase statewide sanitation and public awareness programs to prevent the spread of dengue fever by actively involving citizens. The PM stressed the crucial significance of public involvement in prevention while presiding over an official meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday. Declaring that prevention must continue to be the priority, he emphasized the need to encourage people to keep their houses and surroundings clean, remove standing water, clear trash, and get rid of mosquito breeding grounds.

The PM directed the recruitment of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC), Rover Scouts, Red Crescent staff, and disaster management volunteers to lead local cleaning and awareness campaigns to properly carry out these directions on the ground. The gathering focused on improving treatment facilities and patient management capabilities at upazila-level hospitals in addition to community engagement. To reduce the danger of secondary spread through mosquito bites and to ensure a complete strategy from prevention to treatment, authorities have explored providing mosquito nets to all hospitalized patients.

PM Tarique Rahman said, ‘There must be a reflection of this on the ground,’ emphasizing the need for genuine action and calling on all relevant ministries to cooperate. Key individuals at the meeting were Dhaka South Administrator Mr. Abdus Salam, Special Assistant Mr. Shakirul Islam Khan, State Minister Mr. Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Health Mr. M. A. Muhit, Local Government Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, and Health Special Assistant Dr. S. M. Ziauddin Haider.
