Question: These days, especially on social media, people frequently send greetings saying “Jumma Mubarak” every Friday. We did not see or hear much of this practice until recently. Is it permissible in Islam to send greetings or wish someone “Jumma Mubarak” on Fridays?

Answer: No. This practice is not found in the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) or in the early generations of Islam whose practices are considered worthy of emulation. This new practice, which goes against the Sunnah, is not permissible in Islam. It should be regarded as a new cultural practice. If it is considered part of the Sunnah or an act of religious merit, it would constitute the sin of bid‘ah (religious innovation).
