Remanding Patwari Will Reveal Cocktail Attackers’ Information: Rashed Khan
Mr. Rashed Khan, special political assistant to the Prime Minister, said that if police arrest Mr. Nasiruddin Patwari, chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), and take him on remand for questioning, information about those involved in bus arson and cocktail attacks will come out. He made these remarks yesterday, Tuesday, at a discussion titled “Role of the Government and Opposition in Building a Democratic State,” organized by the Nationalist Like Minded Alliance at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club.
Mr. Khan claimed that the BNP currently has to run its affairs while facing opposition from two sides, the 11 party alliance and the Awami League. He said the BNP now faces various political challenges. He alleged that Jamaat, NCP and Awami League have joined together to try to destabilize the country. He said they are setting fire to buses and trains and also carrying out cocktail bomb explosions.
He said one NCP leader raised the issue of arson terrorism allegedly linked to the Awami League and Jamaat. Quoting a statement from a leader of the same party, Mr. Khan said the cocktail explosions would stop if the government accepted the demands of the 11 party alliance.
Mr. Khan alleged that the Awami League and related political groups plan to start various programs from this coming December. He said many people are working actively to bring the Awami League back into politics. He also claimed that during the events of July, the government arrested the largest number of leaders and activists from the BNP and its affiliated organizations. He also questioned the opposition’s long march program.
Mr. Khan said the world is facing an energy crisis. He said the government had to raise fuel oil prices in order to stay aligned with international market rates. He said that because of steps taken by the government, the power and energy crisis will end within the next two years.
Mr. Khan also spoke about electricity supply from Adani and about the Prime Minister’s foreign visits. He alleged that the Awami League is trying to damage the country’s image by targeting the Prime Minister’s foreign trips.
Barrister Mr. Nasim Khan, coordinator of the Nationalist Like Minded Alliance and president of the Bangladesh Muslim League (BML), chaired the discussion. Other speakers included Mr. Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, acting secretary general of BNP, Mr. A T M Golam Mowla, chairman of Gono Dal, Mr. Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, chairman of the National People’s Party, Mr. Abdullah Al Harun (Sohel), chairman of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Mr. Khokon Chandra Das, general secretary of the Democratic League, Mr. Sayeed Ahmed, president of Samyabadi Dal, Engineer Mr. Abdul Barek, general secretary of Bangladesh NAP, Mr. Jamil Ahmed, general secretary of NDP, Mr. Saiful Islam, general secretary of the Bangladesh Democratic Party, Mr. Rezwan Mortuza, general secretary of BML, and Mr. Abu Sayeed, general secretary of Gono Dal, among others.
Leaders from various levels of BNP and the Nationalist Like Minded Alliance groups also attended the event.
