Serving in Bangladesh a Great Honor: Chinese Ambassador

•  Ambassador Yao Wen meets Mr. Humayun Kabir and Mr. Ismail Zabiullah

China’s outgoing Ambassador to Bangladesh, Mr. Yao Wen, paid a farewell visit to Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Humayun Kabir. The meeting took place yesterday, Sunday, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Deputy Foreign Minister praised Ambassador Mr. Yao Wen’s role in strengthening Bangladesh China relations. He said the ambassador’s work has been widely visible and that he made an important contribution to the success of the Prime Minister’s China visit.

He noted that during the ambassador’s tenure, ties between Bangladesh and China rose to the level of a shared community, and that a deputy minister level 2+2 mechanism will soon begin. Ambassador Mr. Yao Wen called his three years and nine months of service in Bangladesh a great honor.

He congratulated Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, calling it a proud moment for Bangladesh. He said the head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee wishes to visit Bangladesh later this year.

The ambassador also mentioned that his own father once served as China’s ambassador to Bangladesh and had presented his credentials to President Ziaur Rahman. The Deputy Foreign Minister expressed hope that Bangladesh China relations would grow even deeper and wider in the coming days.

He thanked the ambassador and wished him success in his new assignment. He said their paths would meet again in the future, and that Bangladesh would fondly remember Ambassador Mr. Yao Wen’s time in service.

Ambassador Also Meets BNP Standing Committee Member

China’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Mr. Yao Wen, also paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Ismail Zabiullah, a member of BNP’s National Standing Committee and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Public Administration. The meeting was held yesterday, Sunday, at the adviser’s office in the Bangladesh Secretariat.

The two sides discussed increasing mutual communication and advancing bilateral relations. The adviser welcomed the ambassador with flowers and exchanged greetings with him.

The Public Administration Adviser said Bangladesh places great importance on its long standing friendly and trusted relationship with China. He said China is one of Bangladesh’s largest trade and investment partners, and that cooperation between the two countries has expanded beyond trade and investment into education, technology, human resource development, administration, and knowledge exchange.

Ambassador Mr. Yao Wen said recent visits by various Bangladeshi delegations to China have further strengthened ties between the two countries. He said relations reached a new height especially after Prime Minister Mr. Tarique Rahman’s visit to China.

He said that to further strengthen Bangladesh China friendship, the China Bangladesh Friendship Society could arrange an organized and well planned training program in Bangladesh for leaders of different political parties. He referred to the memorandum of understanding signed between the Communist Party of China and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and stressed further increasing cooperation between the two parties.

Officials from the Chinese Embassy were present at the meeting.
