SSC GPA-5 Declines, Girls Maintain Lead
The results of the 2026 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations were formally released on Monday, August 10, ending the wait for nearly 1.8 million students. Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon, Minister of Education and Primary and Mass Education, announced the results at the Ministry of Education. A total of 116,976 students achieved GPA-5 this year, marking a significant decline from the 139,032 students who secured the highest grade in 2025. The number of GPA-5 achievers fell by 22,056 compared with last year.
The decline was recorded among both male and female students. The number of female GPA-5 achievers fell by 9,720, while the number of male achievers dropped by 12,636. Despite the overall decline in top-tier results, female students once again outperformed their male counterparts. Of the 116,976 students who achieved GPA-5 this year, 63,896 are girls, and 52,780 are boys.
Female students therefore accounted for 11,116 more GPA-5 results than male students, continuing their stronger performance at the highest grade level. The figures indicate that while overall GPA-5 attainment has declined compared with 2025, female students have maintained their lead over male students in the highest achievement category.
