Three-Day District Ijtema Begins in Nilphamari

A three-day district Ijtema has begun in Nilphamari, with 12 foreign nationals from Indonesia, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Sudan and Saudi Arabia taking part.
The programme began yesterday at the Darowani Textile Mill ground in Sadar upazila. However, as devotees started arriving ahead of schedule, the formal proceedings began with a general sermon on Wednesday evening.
Organisers said several participants had travelled from Dhaka, including Maulana Munir bin Yusuf, a Shura member of Bangladesh Tabligh Jamaat. The sermons at the Ijtema are focusing on human welfare, the call to Islam, religious life and the hereafter.
Devotees from different upazilas of the district began gathering at the venue a day before the event. Participants have also arrived from neighbouring districts.
District Tabligh Jamaat Ameer Professor (Retd) Didarul Islam said the formal proceedings began with a sermon on Wednesday evening as devotees started arriving early.
“People have come here from different parts of the country. We hope the Ijtema will conclude peacefully,” he said.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened around the event. Law enforcement personnel are maintaining round-the-clock surveillance at the Ijtema ground and surrounding areas to prevent any untoward incidents.
Nilphamari Superintendent of Police Md Farhad Hossain Khan said strict security measures had been taken for the event. Alongside regular police, plainclothes officers, intelligence personnel, Detective Branch (DB) members and other law enforcement agencies are on duty.
He said 184 police personnel had been divided into two sectors to ensure security and prevent any untoward incidents at the venue.
