Titas-28 starts gas supply, 13 Million Cubic Feet To Enter National Grid Daily
Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) has reached a new milestone. The state owned company is the country’s largest gas producer. This achievement will help boost gas supply to the national grid. It will also ease the ongoing energy crisis.
On Saturday, officials formally launched gas production from Well 28. This well is part of the Titas Gas Field under BGFCL. The new well will supply about 12 to 13 million cubic feet of gas daily. Experts believe this will help ease the current gas crisis in industry and power sectors.
A grand inaugural ceremony was held yesterday for this occasion. Mr. Anindya Islam Amit, MP, attended as chief guest. He serves as State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. He formally announced the launch of gas production from the Titas-28 well.
Engineer Mr. Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamol, MP, attended as a special guest. He chairs the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Commerce. Mr. Md. Ziaul Haque also attended as a special guest. He serves as Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
Senior officials from Petrobangla also joined the event. Officials from BGFCL and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources attended as well. After the inauguration, guests visited two ongoing drilling sites. These were the deep exploration wells Titas-31 and Titas-29.
Sources familiar with the matter shared further details. The plan aims to increase supply to the national grid. It includes four evaluation and development wells in the Titas and Kamta fields. China’s international contracting firm CCDC signed an agreement for this work. The agreement was signed on April 10, 2025.
Drilling at the Titas-28 well began on December 15, 2025. The work finished on June 19 this year. The well cost about 200 crore taka to build. It reaches a depth of 3601 meters. After successful testing and completion, it entered official production yesterday.
BGFCL currently supplies about 30 percent of the country’s total gas output. It also provides 18 percent of overall gas supply nationwide. The company operates six gas fields. These fields play a key role in the country’s energy security.
The government has a larger plan for the sector. It aims to add more than 100 million cubic feet of gas daily to the grid by 2030. This will happen through new well drilling and repair of closed wells. The company is also conducting 3D and 2D seismic surveys in various areas. These surveys will help secure future energy supply.
