US Calls for Disclosure of Bangladesh’s Government Procurement Contracts

The United States has urged Bangladesh to make government procurement contract information publicly accessible to improve transparency. Washington also recommended preparing budget documents in line with international standards and ensuring greater independence for the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). The recommendations were made in the US State Department’s 2026 Fiscal Transparency Report: Bangladesh, released on August 11. The report praised the interim government for publishing financial statements and budget documents online but noted gaps in reporting government revenue, expenditure and executive operating costs. The report also said Bangladesh’s electronic government procurement (e-GP) system needs greater public access to information. The US recommended disclosing basic details of natural-resource contracts and licenses, publishing procurement contracts, aligning actual spending with approved budgets, and giving the CAG greater independence, resources and timely access to government accounts.
