Hefazat e Islam Bangladesh Ameer Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari has asked the government not to put any anti Islamic law in place. He has also asked it to take a strong stand against terror and corruption while running the country. He made the demand yesterday when Assistant Political Secretary to the Prime Minister Mr. Md. Rashed Khan paid him a courtesy visit. The Hefazat Ameer also asked people to help the present government.

Before the Jumma prayer yesterday, Mr. Rashed Khan met the senior and well known Islamic scholar at the Al Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Ulum Babunagar Madrasa in Fatikchhari, Chattogram. After the meeting, he spoke to journalists. He said some people use Islam as capital, wear an Islamic look and actually harm Islam. He said the respected Hefazat Ameer has exposed them to the public, and many confused people have become aware. He thanked the Hefazat Ameer for this.

Mr. Rashed Khan said that before the election, people were misled by the “selling of tickets to paradise.” He said the Hefazat Ameer made people aware of this, so the BNP also thanks him. He said Hefazat e Islam Bangladesh still plays a leading role in practicing and spreading Islamic values. Then he criticized Jamaat e Islami. He said those who talk about Islam, especially Jamaat e Islami, should learn from Hefazat e Islam how to spread Islamic values.

He claimed that Jamaat e Islami has moved very far away from Islamic values. He said it is double standard to speak about Islam on one side and take a different position in action and speech on the other. He said Jamaat says it does politics of Islam and wants to put Sharia law in place. But he said nobody can stab Islam in the back while talking about Islamic values. He said the nation is getting confused by their different speeches in the field.

On the present government, Mr. Rashed Khan said the Hefazat Ameer has asked people to help it. So he asked why there should be a long march against a government that is only seven months old. He asked those who fought together and removed fascism to stay united now. He asked them to play a role in rebuilding the state. He alleged that Jamaat e Islami is trying to find a way to gain power instead of focusing on rebuilding the state.

He claimed that some are trying to mislead people by using Islam as capital. He said Jamaat says one thing with the mouth and keeps another in the heart, and its behavior shows hypocrisy. He said that although Jamaat says it will help the government, everyone suspects that it wants to bring back the Awami League and run a movement like the one in 1996. He said there is no difference now between the language of the Awami League and Jamaat. He said that if anyone tries to bring back the Awami League, the BNP will stay on the streets with the people.

Mr. Rashed Khan said December is the month of victory. He said the BNP will stand on the streets with the people if anyone tries to back up the Awami League. Earlier, he took prayers from Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari during the courtesy visit. Allama Babunagari prayed for Prime Minister Mr. Tarique Rahman. He also asked the BNP and the people of the country to keep faith in Islamic values.

Mr. Rashed Khan said his visit is not about the formation of a new alliance of seven Islamic parties. He said he heard about the new alliance from the media. He said he came to take prayers, and the leaders of the seven Islamic parties also came to the Hefazat Ameer. Chattogram Zila Parishad Chairman Mr. Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, Fatikchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mr. Saeed Mohammad Ibrahim, and Fatikchhari Police Station Officer in Charge (OC) Mr. Robiul Alam Khan were present at that time.

District Krishak Dal Member Secretary Mr. Nazim Uddin Shahin and Hefazat Naib e Ameer Maulana Ayub Babunagari were also there. Leaders of the BNP and its associate organizations attended as well.
