China’s Breakthrough in Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production Poised to Push Gross Profit Margins Above 50%

China has made a major scientific and technical breakthrough in producing eco friendly and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Chinese researchers and fuel scientists developed a new production process. Experts now predict that the gross profit margin of SAF will pass 50 percent. High production costs have kept the use of alternative aviation fuel from spreading until now. This Chinese discovery may start a new era of lower carbon emissions in global aviation.
Making bio jet fuel, or SAF, is much harder and costlier than making regular fossil jet fuel. Chinese scientists developed a low cost chemical conversion method and a modern catalyst technology. With these, they can now make high quality jet fuel at a very low cost from used cooking oil, farm waste and industrial carbon. This cuts the production cost by a large amount. As a result, the commercial profit margin may rise above 50 percent.
Energy and international trade analysts say SAF is the only way to bring the aviation sector to net zero carbon emissions by 2050. This is the target of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). But airline companies have hesitated to use it because of its high price. China’s technical progress has turned SAF into a profitable product for business.
Experts believe that in this new balance of the global energy shift, China will also grow stronger in the international aviation fuel market. They say China will be able to build firmer control over the market and over trade in it.
