Iran Offers to Help Facilitate Saudi-Yemen Dialogue

Iran has offered to provide necessary assistance to help initiate dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen and reach a political settlement. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said relying on military action while ignoring a political solution would further complicate the regional situation.
Mr. Araghchi conveyed this position after a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, according to the Saudi state news agency.

In a message posted on Telegram on Sunday, Mr. Araghchi said there was no military solution to the region’s crises. He warned that prioritizing military action while ignoring political solutions would further complicate the situation.
He said Iran was ready to provide any necessary assistance to help start dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen and reach a political settlement.

Last week, Mr. Araghchi also opposed a military solution in the context of the war involving the United States. He said the conflict could not end without negotiations based on justice and fairness.
Following a deadly attack on a Saudi airport, US President Donald Trump said he would reconsider Washington’s role in Yemen. According to the report, the attack killed 12 people and injured 300 others. Mr. Trump also said he was considering whether to resume attacks on Iran.

Mr. Trump’s remarks indicated a shift from his position on Thursday, when he said the United States would not launch further attacks on Iran before the US midterm elections.
Despite their longstanding rivalry, Iran and Saudi Arabia have maintained diplomatic relations. Following a China-brokered agreement in 2023, the two countries reopened their embassies. Their diplomatic ties had been severed for seven years, during which conflicts between rival groups backed by the two countries intensified across the region.

Relations between Tehran and Riyadh deteriorated after the United States and Israel launched a war against Iran in late February 2026. Iran and armed groups linked to the country subsequently attacked US military facilities and energy infrastructure across the Gulf region. Saudi oil fields were also among the targets.
In March 2026, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal warned that Saudi Arabia and its neighbouring Gulf countries had limited tolerance for Iranian attacks. He urged Tehran to reconsider its strategy.
