Thousands of Students and Commuters Suffer Severe Hardship

Baghaichhari-Bottoli road in a dilapidated state, riddled with potholes

Battali Road, located in the heart of Rangamati’s Baghaichhari upazila, has fallen into severe disrepair following recent flood damage that stripped away pitch carpeting and created numerous deep potholes. The degraded thoroughfare now poses daily hazards to thousands of students, commuters, and pedestrians. Local residents are urgently demanding sustainable repairs, noting that rain turns the damaged sections into muddy pools and washed-out stretches frequently cause accidents and traffic disruptions.

The route serves as a crucial connection for nearby educational institutions and daily transit. Students report safety risks and frequent auto-rickshaw overturns that damage school supplies, with conditions worsening during rainfall. Drivers also report severe vehicle damage and passenger reluctance to travel the route.
Community members expressed frustration over years of neglect. Abdul Mabud, President of the Baghaichhari Upazila Press Club and a local resident, emphasized that the road’s condition undermines the town’s image and called for immediate resurfacing. In response, Sub-Assistant Engineer Saju Ahmed stated that officials are aware of the situation and that repair work will commence as soon as funds are allocated.
