Tehran Meeting of ‘Mecca Defense’ Alliance Raises Hopes of Easing Middle East Tensions

A high level diplomatic meeting is being held in Iran to avoid a new full scale war in the Middle East and to strengthen regional security. The talks began in the capital Tehran with representatives from Saudi Arabia and other member states of the “Mecca Agreement.” This comes amid sharp tension with America and Israel. Tehran sees the move as the start of building a self reliant and lasting security framework.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mr. Ismail Baghaei said the main goal of the talks is to create a working regional mechanism to ensure overall security in the Middle East. He called it “internal security” built by the region on its own. Iran says it has tried to build such a regional shield since the US and Israeli aggression and war began. Tehran says it still wants the region to protect itself.
Analysts say the Tehran meeting shows a major step forward in diplomacy during a time of recent tension and hostile ties. The Saudi defense minister’s presence on this visit is getting great attention in diplomatic circles. Earlier, Iran had accused Riyadh of giving facilities for US attacks and military action against Iran. Iran had claimed this made Saudi Arabia part of an indirect aggression.
Only a few days ago, Riyadh had directly blamed Iran for a deadly Houthi attack on the Saudi Ministry of Defense. Despite this deep bitterness and conflict, the two countries’ senior representatives are now meeting face to face. This points to a thaw in relations. Diplomatic analysts hope the historic talks in Tehran will help ease the extreme tension in the Middle East. They also hope the talks will save the region from another destructive war.
