Israel’s Army Chief Refuses Order to Strike Iran

A rare and sharp clash has come to light between Israeli Prime Minister Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu and the chief of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Lieutenant General Mr. Eyal Zamir. According to a Channel 12 report, Mr. Netanyahu ordered a military move linked to Iran ahead of the coming election. The IDF chief has refused to follow that order. The news has stirred wide debate in the country.

Military sources say army leaders fear the move could be made for political gain or to sway the election. Mr. Zamir asked for clear legal approval and a written order before carrying it out. Military officials also warned that such a step just before the vote could grow into a major conflict with Tehran. They see the risk as very high.

Opposition leaders have called the matter a huge threat to national security. Top leaders of the opposition reacted sharply. They said Mr. Netanyahu is ready to risk the lives and safety of Israeli citizens to protect his own political interests and hold on to power. Mr. Netanyahu has rejected the report in an interview with Channel 14. He called it “baseless” and “nonsense.”

Analysts say this military and political tension inside Israel could push the whole region toward a bigger conflict. The Middle East is already unstable. Any wrong move could make things worse.
