Three-Day District Ijtema Begins in Nilphamari

A three-day district-level Ijtema has begun in Nilphamari, drawing 12 foreign nationals from Indonesia, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Sudan, and Saudi Arabia. The Ijtema activities officially commenced on Thursday, October 29, at the Daroyani Textile Mill ground in the Sadar upazila. However, due to the early arrival of devotees, the formal proceedings began yesterday, Wednesday evening, with an initial general sermon (Bayan).
According to the organizers, numerous participants arrived from Dhaka, including Mawlana Munir Bin Yusuf, a Shura member of Bangladesh Tablighi Jamaat. Important sermons are being delivered at the Ijtema focusing on human welfare, the propagation of Islam, religious lifestyle, and the afterlife.
Pious devotees began gathering at the venue from various upazilas of the district a day before the Ijtema. Attendance of worshippers was also observed from surrounding districts. Professor (Retd.) Didarul Islam, Amir of the District Tablighi Jamaat, stated, ‘As devotees started arriving early, the formal proceedings of this year’s Ijtema began with a sermon on Wednesday evening. Worshippers have arrived from various parts of the country, and we hope the Ijtema will conclude peacefully.’
Meanwhile, security measures have been tightened around the Ijtema. Law enforcement personnel are maintaining constant surveillance on the Ijtema grounds and surrounding areas to prevent any untoward incidents. Nilphamari Superintendent of Police Md. Farhad Hossain Khan said that strict security measures have been taken around the Ijtema.
In addition to regular police, personnel in plain clothes, Detective Branch (DB) police, and other law enforcement agencies are on duty. Strict vigilance is being maintained at the Ijtema venue to avert any unpleasant occurrences. For this purpose, 184 police personnel have been deployed, divided into two sectors. The three-day Ijtema will conclude with the final supplication (Akhiri Munajat) at noon on Saturday, October 31.
