HC Suspends Decision to Dissolve Governing Bodies of Fazil and Kamil Madrasas

The High Court has stayed a decision of the Islamic Arabic University that cancelled the governing bodies of Fazil and Kamil madrasas across the country. A High Court division bench of Mr. Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi and Ms. Justice Fatema Anwar gave the order yesterday after hearing a writ petition. Advocate Mr. Parvez Hossain argued for the petition. The university had cancelled the governing body committees of Fazil and Kamil madrasas across the country earlier this month.
An office order signed by the university’s registrar, Prof. Dr. A K M Nurul Islam, gave this information. The order said the university cancelled the governing body committees of Fazil and Kamil madrasas under it. It said this followed a decision of the 43rd syndicate meeting held earlier this month. To form ad hoc committees, the university named the nominees under section 1(Kha)(1) and (3) of the Islamic Arabic University Third Statute 2023.
The order named the district commissioner as president for madrasas in a district headquarters. For madrasas outside a district headquarters, it named the additional district commissioner as president. It named the district education officer as education loving member at district level. At upazila level, it named the upazila secondary education officer. The order asked the madrasas to send proposals to approve the ad hoc committees in the set form as soon as possible, as per rules.
