Women’s leadership strengthens the country’s future: Dr Zubaida

Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and vice-president of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, has said empowering young women to lead strengthens not only their communities but the future of the entire country.

She made the remarks on today (August 9) as the chief guest at the national closing ceremony of ‘She Leads Tomorrow’ at the Liberation War Museum in Dhaka. The event, jointly organised by the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, UN Women and UNOPS Bangladesh, celebrated young women’s leadership, resilience and aspirations. The project, supported by the Joint SDG Fund, trained more than 1,000 adolescent girls and young women to become community leaders and agents of positive change.

Planning State Minister Jonaid Abdur Rahim Saki said women’s meaningful participation was essential to achieving Bangladesh’s Sustainable Development Goals. Principal Coordinator for SDG Affairs at the Prime Minister’s Office Prof Dr SM Abdul Awal stressed that young women must play a leading role in shaping the country’s future. The programme also featured the unveiling of a ‘She Leads Tomorrow’ coffee-table book, a photography exhibition and panel discussions on women’s roles in diplomacy, politics and gender equality.
