Indian High Commissioner Calls for PM-Level Talks to Resolve Bilateral Issues

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has said talks between Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi could help resolve many outstanding issues between the two countries. “We respect Prime Minister Tarique Rahman a lot. I have heard his speeches many times, and I have seen that he speaks from the heart,”Mr.Trivedi said on Sunday. He made the remarks after inaugurating a children’s play area at the Indian Visa Application Centre at Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka. He said dialogue between the two leaders could help identify problems and find solutions. “My belief is that people are united, and the problems will be solved. There is nothing negative here; everything will be positive,” he said.

Relations between Bangladesh and India have faced tensions following a virtual press conference by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from Delhi. Hasina is facing a death sentence in Bangladesh. Mr. Trivedi is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in Dhaka on Monday for the first time since taking charge as India’s High Commissioner. The two sides are expected to discuss bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest.
