Organic Fertilizer Being Produced from Waste in Cox’s Bazar
An integrated waste management project in Banatola, South Mithachhari of Ramu, is producing organic fertilizer by processing biodegradable waste collected from hotels, motels and various institutions.
After the waste is brought to the processing facility, female workers first sort it manually. Plastic, polythene and other non-biodegradable materials are separated from the biodegradable waste. The organic portion then undergoes a systematic processing cycle to produce compost.
According to project officials, the collected waste is processed in several stages for around 45 days. During this period, the organic materials gradually decompose and are transformed into organic fertilizer.
The initiative, involving Cox’s Bazar Municipality, the Forest Department and the Bangladesh Climate Change Trust, follows a structured system from waste collection to processing. By separating recyclable and non-biodegradable materials and converting organic waste into fertilizer, the project is turning waste into a useful resource while reducing the amount of waste requiring disposal.
