Condemnation of Anti-Bangladesh Remarks by Chakma Leaders in Delhi
CHT Harmony Alliance Convener Engineer Thowai Ching Mong Chak has strongly condemned calls by some Chakma leaders in Delhi to suspend diesel and electricity supplies to Bangladesh.
In a statement, he said making such demands from abroad to harm Bangladesh’s people, economy, industries, agriculture, transport and energy security was deeply concerning. He said calls for economic pressure or suspension of energy supplies were unacceptable.
He said political differences, ethnic identity and regional demands could exist, but no citizen or political leader should urge a foreign country to take measures that would harm Bangladesh’s people.
Thowai Ching Mong Chak said the Chittagong Hill Tracts is part of Bangladesh and that issues concerning the region should be addressed through democratic processes and dialogue. He urged the government to investigate any attempts abroad to create economic pressure on Bangladesh and take legal action based on evidence.
He also said the people of the Chittagong Hill Tracts want peace, security, education, healthcare, employment and development, and urged all citizens and political organisations to prioritise Bangladesh’s sovereignty, harmony and public interest.
