New Ministers and State Ministers Take Charge Today
The portfolios of the four newly appointed ministers and two state ministers have been allocated, while the portfolio of another minister has also been changed. The new ministers and state ministers will begin working at their respective ministries toda. On Saturday, they paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar. They also visited the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and paid their respects. The newly appointed ministers and state ministers pledged to discharge their responsibilities with honesty and dedication for the country’s peace, prosperity and overall welfare.
The Cabinet Division issued a notification on the matter on Friday night. Earlier that evening, newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir administered the oath of office to the four ministers and two state ministers at Bangabhaban. Following Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s assumption of the presidency, Abdul Moin Khan has been given charge of the Local Government Ministry. Rashiduzzaman Millat, who was elevated from state minister to minister, will head the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism. The previous minister of the ministry, Afroza Khanam Rita, has been appointed minister for Food. Saching Prue Jerry, the lawmaker from Bandarban, has been appointed minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs. Dipen Dewan initially held the ministry after the BNP government took office but resigned after three months. State Minister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin is currently serving in the ministry.
BNP government partner BJP Chairman Andalib Rahman Partha has been appointed minister for Information and Broadcasting. Zahur Uddin Swapan, who had been serving as information minister, has been appointed an adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Shamim Kaiser has been appointed state minister for Religious Affairs, while Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad is serving as the minister of the ministry. Humayun Kabir has been appointed state minister for Foreign Affairs. Shama Obaed Islam, who was already serving as state minister in the ministry, will remain in her position. As a result, the Foreign Ministry will have two state ministers. Khalilur Rahman is serving as the foreign minister.
