Govt’s new initiative to ensure good governance, transparency and accountability

- Government assigns 30 ministers, state ministers and whips to 64 districts
The government has assigned 30 ministers, state ministers and whips to 64 districts to oversee and coordinate overall government activities, including maintaining law and order, controlling corruption and drugs, ensuring good governance, transparency and accountability, and implementing public welfare and development activities across the country. Without undermining the legal powers of local government institutions and other constitutional and statutory bodies, the government has assigned the ministers, state ministers and whips of the National Parliament the responsibilities in accordance with the decision taken by the prime minister under the Constitution.
A gazette notification was issued today, Thursday, signed by Cabinet Division Secretary Mr. Nasimul Gani. The notification said the government, or the Cabinet, is collectively accountable to Parliament and the people for all activities related to governing the state, including national development, combating corruption, maintaining law and order, establishing good governance and ensuring national security. Ensuring sustainable development, good governance, transparency, accountability and eliminating corruption is one of the current government’s priority urgent programmes.
