Pakistan Not Obliged to Comply with US Unilateral Sanctions on Iran

Pakistan has made it clear that it is not obliged to comply with the unilateral economic sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran. Islamabad described Washington’s latest measures against Tehran as inconsistent with international law and stressed that crises should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andarabi made the remarks at a press conference in Islamabad on Thursday. The spokesperson said Pakistan believes the unilateral measures imposed by Washington against Tehran are not consistent with international law. He stressed that diplomatic negotiations and dialogue, rather than harsh economic sanctions or blockades, are the appropriate means of resolving crises.

Earlier on Monday, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a new package of economic and financial sanctions against Iran. The Trump administration has been using economic pressure as part of its strategy to force Tehran to make concessions. Despite Washington’s sweeping financial sanctions and threats, Pakistan’s position signals that it intends to pursue its own foreign policy while protecting its regional interests rather than complying with the US measures.
