Feasibility Study Agreement Signed for Second Jamuna and Padma Bridges

On Tuesday, the Bangladesh Bridge Authority signed a consultancy service agreement for a feasibility study on the construction of the second Jamuna and second Padma bridges to evaluate appropriate locations, alignments, and economic feasibility. At the Bangladesh Bridge Authority conference room, Sarm Associates Limited Managing Director Engineer Mr. Mia Mohammad Kaiyum and Chief Engineer Md. Abul Hossain signed the contract on behalf of their respective companies.

Tiller serves as a subcontractor in the joint venture, which also includes Desh Upodesh Limited and Sarm Associates Limited from Bangladesh, SweRoad from Sweden, Dasan Consultants Company Limited from South Korea, and Environment and Resource Management Consultant Private Limited from Nepal. The project’s objectives involve finding structural alternatives, analyzing safe and sustainable bridge choices to meet long-term communication needs, and critically assessing technical, economic, environmental, social, and financial sustainability within the allocated time frame.

The chief guest, Mohammad Abdur Rouf, the executive director of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority and secretary of the Bridges Division, stated that the government is carrying out several mega-infrastructure projects to improve regional connectivity, develop communication infrastructure, and further promote economic activity. He emphasized that this agreement is a major step in developing the country’s bridge infrastructure and enhancing regional connections.

The Bridges Division Secretary has urged the interested parties to complete the feasibility assessment within eight to nine months while carefully preserving quality, even though the research’s required timeframe is 12 months. The successful construction of these two planned bridges, according to stakeholders, will greatly facilitate travel between the northern, southwestern, and central areas, reduce the burden on the current road networks, and speed up the flow of people and products.
