President Calls on Expatriates for Active Role in National Development

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called on Bangladeshi expatriates staying abroad to contribute more significantly to the country’s development by increasing local investments and bringing in foreign cash. During an official meeting at Bangabhaban on Thursday afternoon, a delegation of British-Bangla expatriates, led by well-known UK-based businessman Mr. Kamal Uddin, made a call to congratulate the President on his success.

The President expressed sincere gratitude for the remarkable financial, labor, and intellectual contributions made by expatriates across the world to the development of justice, the advancement of the anti-fascist movement, and the upholding of democracy. He stressed that the country and its citizens would always remember their significant efforts, while pointing out that remittances from foreign workers continue to be one of the key factors supporting the local economy.

During the discussions, the team from the UK asked for the President’s support in improving business and civic facilities, including voting rights and actions to stop harassment at airports. The President responded by assuring them that the government has already taken action to address these problems, such as the launch of an expatriate card meant to ensure complete services and facilities for foreign nationals.

The President encouraged the team to broaden their involvement in sectors such as job creation, education, health, technology, skill development, and social welfare, stating, ‘You are living in many places around the world as representatives of Bangladesh. You’ll present a good impression of the nation worldwide’. The members of the visiting group openly expressed their strong interest in making direct commercial investments in the nation after this inquiry.
