Nine Dead from Spurious Liquor in India

In Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district on Saturday night, at least nine people have died, and many more have been dangerously ill after reportedly taking in poisonous and fake alcohol; the regions of Ghughra, Nawraj, and Baraj were especially affected. Although formal confirmation is expected after post-mortem and chemical analysis tests, local administration and police believe contaminated alcohol caused the quick deterioration and eventual fatalities. While concerns remain that the death toll may increase, law enforcement authorities have gathered samples for laboratory testing and started an inquiry to track down the production and supply source.

Police are looking into whether an illegal poisonous liquor syndicate works behind the scenes as a result of the tragedy, which has caused substantial alarm and rage across the region. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Mohan Yadav expressed deep sorrow and worry and ordered high-ranking officials and relevant ministries to get straight to the scene. He stressed that the administration would not put up with such unacceptable conduct under any circumstances and that an extensive inquiry will be carried out along with severe legal action against those responsible.

State Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Jagdish Devda called the situation very regrettable and stated that the Superintendent of Police and District Collector are providing real-time information. Senior excise department representatives have already left to conduct an on-site inquiry to find out how the poisonous beverage got to nearby customers. While medical professionals care for the remaining people who became ill soon after consumption, authorities are still on high alert.
