Journalist Huda Jariwala Arrested Over Remarks About Yogi in Mosque Demolition Case

Saharanpur police have arrested former journalist and social activist Huda Jariwala for allegedly making controversial remarks about Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the Saharanpur district magistrate. She made the remarks regarding their alleged involvement in the demolition of a mosque on the district collectorate premises.

A case was filed at Sadar Bazar Police Station based on a written complaint by lawyer Dushyant Singh. Ms. Jariwala was later arrested on grounds that her actions could potentially disrupt public order. Police said the alleged objectionable remarks appeared in a video circulated on social media.

According to police and local sources, Ms. Jariwala visited the Saharanpur Circuit House on Monday. There, she reportedly got into an argument with police personnel over accompanying a delegation of the Samajwadi Party.

When female police officers present at the scene attempted to remove her, a scuffle and verbal altercation reportedly followed. Shortly afterwards, a video surfaced on social media in which she allegedly made objectionable remarks about Yogi Adityanath and the district magistrate while discussing the demolition of the collectorate mosque.

Later, lawyer Dushyant Singh filed a complaint with the police, saying such remarks could create disorder among the public and damage communal harmony.

After noticing the video, police detained Ms. Jariwala and subsequently arrested her. She was produced before a court under preventive provisions aimed at preventing breaches of public peace, and the judge ordered her to be sent to jail.

Saharanpur SSP Abhinandan Singh said police registered the case based on Dushyant Singh’s complaint and were examining both the viral video and the accused’s statements.

“The social media video and the alleged remarks are being investigated,” SSP Singh said. He added that further legal action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

Police activity in Saharanpur has increased since the mosque inside the collectorate complex was demolished. Ms. Jariwala’s arrest came amid heightened security measures.

Police have also intensified monitoring of various social media platforms for posts, videos or messages that could spread rumours or create tension.

SP City Byom Bindal said a special police team was monitoring online activities and identifying those attempting to disrupt the law and order situation.

It may be noted that police have already detained several people over allegations of posting provocative posters and objectionable content on social media in connection with the mosque demolition.
