Russia-Serbia Agreement on Peaceful Cooperation in Space Approved

Russia has approved a draft agreement with Serbia on cooperation in space research and the peaceful use of outer space, according to a government decree published by the Russian government. The proposed agreement provides for cooperation in various areas, including space exploration, space medicine, remote Earth observation, satellite systems, space weather and human spaceflight.

The agreement also envisages creating the necessary conditions for activities related to the launch and use of spacecraft, conducting joint research projects, and exchanging technology, expertise and necessary equipment. It will also allow the two sides to conclude separate agreements and carry out contractual activities for specific areas of cooperation.

The Russian government has authorised the country’s state space agency, Roscosmos, to negotiate and sign the agreement with Serbia in coordination with the Foreign Ministry. Once signed, the agreement will remain in force for 10 years.

After the initial term expires, the agreement may be extended for successive five-year periods with the consent of both parties. Either side may terminate the agreement by following the prescribed procedures.

The proposed cooperation could create opportunities for long-term coordination between Russia and Serbia in various areas of space research and technology. However, the agreement has not yet been formally signed; following approval of the draft, negotiations and the signing process between the two sides will proceed.
