Dinesh Trivedi Emphasises Further Strengthening of Bangladesh-India Partnership
Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi paid a courtesy call on President Fakhrul Islam Alomgir at Bangabhaban to discuss various aspects of the bilateral relationship, longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries. During the important courtesy meeting held yesterday, the two sides held fruitful discussions on various aspects of bilateral relations, longstanding friendship and cooperation. The Indian High Commission in Dhaka officially informed the public about the meeting through a special notice published on its official Facebook page.
During the meeting, Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi conveyed warm greetings and congratulations on behalf of his country and government to the President. He wished the President every success in continuing to discharge his responsibilities for the overall progress, peace and welfare of the people of Bangladesh. At the same time, he reiterated India’s commitment to maintaining the continuity of friendly relations between the two neighbouring countries.
The President said that public trust and confidence between the two countries would increase further if issues of mutual interest were resolved fairly and through mutually acceptable solutions. Pointing out that the management of shared rivers is directly linked to the lives and livelihoods of the people of both countries, he called for effective measures to ensure the equitable distribution of water from the Ganges, Teesta and other shared rivers. In response, the High Commissioner informed the President that his government was taking positive measures on the matter.
During his discussions with the President, the Indian High Commissioner recalled with importance the historical ties and shared experiences between the two countries. He noted that the Bangladesh-India relationship is not confined merely to a geographical boundary; rather, the relationship has been built on a shared history, prolonged struggles, deep cultural exchanges and the genuine bonds between the peoples of the two countries. It was expressed that the relationship between the two countries would become more multidimensional in the days ahead, building on this strong legacy.
Mr Trivedi placed particular emphasis on the importance of further strengthening, modernising and making the existing bilateral partnership more dynamic with the aim of improving the living standards and overall well-being of the peoples of both countries. He said that the two neighbouring states could contribute to each other’s development while respecting their respective sovereignty, mutual dignity and interests. Representatives of both countries expressed the belief that bilateral ties in areas such as trade, economic development, culture and connectivity would reach new heights in the days ahead.
The meeting between the President and the Indian delegation was an important part of maintaining high-level diplomatic communication between the two neighbouring states. The meeting once again made clear the message and commitment of Bangladesh and India to working together toward joint development and ensuring overall peace and stability in the region.
