Bangladeshi Doctors’ Success at China’s International Urology Conference
Prominent Bangladeshi urologists showcased the nation’s advancements in medical research and urological treatment at the 13th Golden Bridge International Urology Conference held from September 11 to 13 at the Garden Villa, Guanfang Hotel in Lijiang, Yunnan Province, China. Organized by the Second Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, the international summit convened leading specialists and delegates from Bangladesh, China, the United Kingdom, Nepal, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and various other nations to foster cross-border medical cooperation.
Representing Bangladesh on the global stage, Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam of Bangladesh Medical University delivered a landmark research presentation titled ‘Total Tubeless Mini-PCNL’. His session focused on the efficacy, clinical outcomes, safety, and adaptation of this advanced, minimally invasive surgical technique for removing large and complex kidney stones, highlighting its practical implementation within resource-constrained healthcare settings.
Alongside Professor Islam, the Bangladeshi delegation featured distinguished medical leaders including Professor Dr. Provat Chandra Biswas, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services; Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, Chairman of the Department of Urology at Bangladesh Medical University; Professor Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, President of the Bangladesh Association of Urological Surgeons; and Dr. Khandaker Mahbub Hossain. These key figures actively contributed to the scientific proceedings by presenting their respective research papers and chairing multiple technical sessions across critical subspecialties.
The conference concluded with productive dialogues regarding the expansion of bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh Medical University and the Second Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, emphasizing stronger frameworks for expert exchanges, joint research, specialized training, and advanced medical technology under their existing Memorandum of Understanding.
