Xi to Meet Trump This Week Amid War and Rising Global Tensions
Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to visit the United States this week amid the ongoing war in Iran and growing geopolitical tensions worldwide. During the visit, he will hold a high-stakes meeting with US President Donald Trump. Beijing has officially confirmed the visit.
According to a Chinese government statement, the visit will take place from Wednesday to Friday.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a regular press briefing today that amid the intensifying war in Iran, the two leaders will hold an in-depth exchange of views on various important issues, including China-US bilateral relations, world peace and global development.
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, US President Donald Trump highlighted the importance of the meeting, saying, “I will discuss almost everything with him [Xi Jinping].”
Analysts say the important meeting is being arranged to help thaw relations between the two countries amid the ongoing war in Iran in the Middle East, as well as differences over the global economy, trade tariffs and the global competition over technology.
