PM Announces Upazila Health Complex Expansion to 150 Beds

PM Tarique Rahman has pledged to provide various benefits to people through Family Cards and Farmer Cards, while also modernising and strengthening health complexes in every upazila across the country.

Speaking at a public rally following the inauguration of the BDT 1,500-crore Muhuri-Kahua Irrigation Project, the Prime Minister stated that the government aims to ensure comprehensive medical treatment at the upazila level. This initiative seeks to reduce the necessity for rural patients to travel to district headquarters or the capital for complex medical care.

“Every upazila health complex in the country will be expanded from 50 to 150 beds within the next five years to strengthen local healthcare capacity,” PM said.

Highlighting social welfare efforts, the Prime Minister detailed the implementation of Family Cards to empower women economically and Farmer Cards to deliver direct state support to small and marginal farmers, eliminating intermediaries.

Addressing local flood concerns in Fulgazi and Parshuram, PM emphasized that the canal excavation linking the Muhuri and Kahua rivers is part of a broader election pledge to improve drainage, manage floodwaters, and support agricultural irrigation.

“Water management and infrastructure development remain central to our policy of public service and welfare,” he added.

The event was presided over by Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, with Environment Minister Abdul Awal Chowdhury Mintu, local MP Munshi Rofiqul Alam Majnu, cabinet ministers, government officials, and party leaders in attendance.
