Bangla QR Code Transactions to Be Free of Charges

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that transactions made through Bangla QR codes will not carry any fees or charges as part of the government’s plan to build a cashless Bangladesh and promote the digital economy. He said all transactions through QR codes under the initiative would be completely free, with users not required to pay any additional fees or charges.
The minister made the remarks yesterday, Thursday, while inaugurating purchases using Bangla QR codes and inspecting QR-based transactions at Banani Kacha Bazar in the capital. He said people from all sections of society, including street food vendors, rickshaw pullers and small business owners, would be brought under QR-based digital financial services.
Under the system, ordinary citizens, roadside vendors and small businesses will be able to receive payments easily through QR codes into accounts with any bank or service provider. This will reduce the need to carry cash and make transactions easier and faster.
The minister said some minor technical challenges or temporary problems may arise at the initial stage, but they can be resolved quickly. Cashless transactions have already proved to be easy and secure in many developed and fast-growing economies around the world. Bangladesh Bank is also working to make this international practice widely available in Bangladesh. He urged citizens, businesses and service providers to participate without hesitation in the government’s initiative to build a cashless, secure and digital economy in Bangladesh.
