Bangladesh, China Working Together on Energy Development: Ambassador Yao Wen

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen said China is actively working to help Bangladesh tackle its current energy crisis, with the two countries jointly focusing on renewable energy, particularly solar power, to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. He made the remarks after a meeting with Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Dr Abdul Moin Khan and State Minister Mir Shahe Alam at the Secretariat on Thursday morning.

Yao said China is using its technological expertise to help address Bangladesh’s energy shortage. He also said the Prime Minister’s recent visit to China opened a new historic opportunity for bilateral cooperation, with the two countries agreeing to build a “China-Bangladesh community with a shared future for a new era”.

He said significant progress has been made in economic and infrastructure cooperation in the two months since the visit. The foundation stone of Bangladesh’s first special economic zone with Chinese assistance has been laid, while the Teesta River project’s feasibility study is underway. Construction of Dhaka University’s Women’s Residential Hall and a hospital is also progressing, while discussions are underway to increase direct flights between the two countries.
