Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan Accuses India of Crimes Against Humanity over Demolition of Mosques, Homes

Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan Ameer Maulana Habibullah Miyazi has strongly condemned the demolition of more than 1,100 homes and over 10 mosques belonging to Bengali Muslims in India’s Assam, expressing deep concern over the incidents.
In a statement on Thursday (October 22), he said India was systematically committing widespread human rights violations against Muslims in Assam, Uttar Pradesh and other regions. He said the demolition of Muslim homes and mosques constituted a grave violation of human rights, adding that nearly 19,000 families had been displaced over the past decade.
He said a US-based three-member panel had reviewed alleged state crimes against the Muslim community between 2022 and 2025 and found substantial evidence of state persecution. A report published on March 31 said the chief ministers of Assam and Uttar Pradesh had created conditions conducive to ethnic cleansing.
He alleged that the Hindu nationalist BJP government was conspiring to destroy Muslim heritage sites across India as part of an effort to transform the country into a Hindu state. He cited the demolition of the historic Babri Mosque in 1992, which drew widespread international condemnation.
Despite protests from the international community, India continued its crackdown on minorities, he said. The Indian government must be held accountable for systematic state persecution, human rights violations and interference with religious freedom, he added.
He also referred to a recent order by the Modi administration to evict a 150-year-old historic mosque near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in Delhi. The historic Race Course Mosque has been listed as a Waqf property in the government’s gazette since 1977 and is included in the New Delhi Municipal Council’s list of heritage structures.
According to the statement, the mosque received an eviction notice on October 19, giving it six days to vacate the premises. The disconnection of its electricity and water supplies since October 7 had severely disrupted worshippers’ prayers and daily activities.
He further alleged that minority Muslims in India were being deprived of state protection and civil rights through the removal of their names from voter lists.
The Khelafat Andolan chief called for international intervention to protect Muslims in India. He warned that continued oppression would eventually lead to India’s disintegration, adding that the day when oppressed Muslims would once again establish their authority in the country was not far away, Insha’Allah.
