Biman Flight Grounded in Kathmandu Due to Mechanical Fault, 127 Passengers Returning on Alternative Flight

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight has been grounded at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal, due to a mechanical fault. As a result, the flight could not depart for Dhaka as scheduled. After the 127 passengers had to wait at the airport for an extended period, Biman Bangladesh Airlines sent another aircraft from Dhaka to bring them back home. The affected flight, BG372, was scheduled to depart Kathmandu for Dhaka at 4:00pm on Sunday (August 16). Boarding for the flight was scheduled to begin at 3:00pm.

However, the aircraft could not take off at the scheduled time because of a mechanical problem. The passengers consequently had to wait at Kathmandu airport for a long period. Mohiuddin Khan, general manager of public relations at Biman Bangladesh Airlines, said a flight had been grounded in Kathmandu due to a mechanical fault. He said the airline had sent another aircraft from Dhaka to bring the passengers back to Bangladesh. According to Biman, the alternative flight was scheduled to depart Kathmandu for Dhaka at around 11:15pm Bangladesh time. The latest incident comes just days after another Biman flight developed a mechanical problem during a journey from Toronto to Dhaka.

On August 6, Biman flight BG306, which was travelling from Toronto to Dhaka, developed a mechanical fault during a scheduled stop in Rome for refuelling. The flight was carrying 259 passengers. The mechanical problem left the passengers stranded at Rome airport for an extended period, causing significant inconvenience. Biman later sent technicians and the necessary equipment from Dhaka to Rome to repair the aircraft. After completing the repairs, the airline brought the passengers back to Dhaka on the flight.

The Kathmandu incident occurred within a week of the Toronto-Dhaka flight’s mechanical problem, making it another recent case of a Biman aircraft being grounded because of a technical fault.
