China Hails Russian Election Results as Reflection of People’s Will
China has welcomed the preliminary results of Russia’s State Duma (parliamentary) elections, held against the backdrop of the Ukraine war, describing them as a reflection of the Russian people’s will. According to initial data, the ruling ‘United Russia’ party is heading toward a decisive victory.
Speaking at a regular press conference in Beijing on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mr. Guo Jiakun stated, ‘China congratulates Russia on the successful conclusion of the State Duma elections. This election is a major event in Russia’s political calendar, reflecting the independent choice of the Russian people.’
He further reiterated that China has always supported the sovereign decisions of the Russian people and stands ready to further strengthen bilateral relations with Moscow. According to preliminary data from Russia’s Central Election Commission, vote counting is near completion. This marks the first parliamentary election in Russia since the onset of the Ukraine war, with the ruling United Russia party on track to secure both control of parliament and a constitutional supermajority.
Election commission sources reported a voter turnout of over 50 percent. However, the inclusion of Russian-controlled territories of Ukraine in the voting process has drawn strong condemnation and rejection from Kyiv and its Western allies.
