China Intensifies Critical Mineral Extraction in Tibet

China has taken a major step toward tightening its grip on strategic assets and critical minerals worldwide. As part of Beijing’s ‘resource consolidation’ (Resource Push) policy, several of the country’s leading mining corporations have entered into joint partnerships to extract vital underground and rare earth minerals in Tibet.
According to a report by the international media outlet South China Morning Post (SCMP), this initiative aims to maintain China’s dominance in the supply of critical minerals essential for electronics, electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy, and defense technology.
The report notes that these state-backed Chinese enterprises will accelerate the discovery and extraction of precious metals and critical minerals in the remote regions of Tibet. Market analysts believe this move will further solidify Beijing’s control over the global supply chain.
Chinese policymakers have long emphasized the need to ensure mineral security both domestically and within autonomous regions like Tibet. In the face of Western pressure and restrictions in the technology sector, this effort is viewed as highly significant for keeping China’s domestic industries operational and sustaining its influence in global markets.
