PM Directs Common Syllabus for Training Across All Ministries
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed that training programmes conducted by various ministries be brought under an integrated framework, with a common syllabus and certification system, to develop skilled human resources based on the demands of national and international labour markets.
The Prime Minister issued the directive while chairing the third meeting of the Governing Body of the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon at 10:00am on Saturday, September 19.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister said the NSDA was playing an important role in developing skilled human resources in line with the demands of national and international labour markets. He said it was also an important platform for increasing demand for Bangladesh’s skilled workforce in international labour markets.
He said developing the skills of the country’s youth was extremely important. Although many training programmes are being conducted under different ministries for this purpose, a lack of proper coordination has meant that these training programmes and certificates have often failed to play an effective role. As a result, young people in the country are not receiving the desired recognition at the national and international levels for these certificates.
The Prime Minister said the NSDA Governing Body must formulate the necessary policies through a small committee within a short period and bring the skills development and training programmes of different ministries under an integrated framework.
He emphasised introducing training and certification based on a common syllabus. The Prime Minister said that introducing a common and internationally standard training and certification system would not only enhance the skills of the country’s youth but also increase their acceptability and recognition in national and international labour markets.
The meeting briefed the Prime Minister on the NSDA’s administrative structure, manpower and functions. Discussions were also held on the national skills development policy and strategy documents, developing skilled human resources in line with the demands of national and international labour markets, analysing sector-specific skills requirements, and short-, medium- and long-term action plans.
The meeting also discussed improving the quality of training, certification and mutual recognition of certificates.
