Concession Agreement Signed with DP World for Chittagong Port’s New Mooring Container Terminal

A concession agreement was signed on Thursday with Dubai-based DP World to operate the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chittagong Port.
The signing took place at 3:00 PM at the Invest Bangladesh auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka.
Under the terms of the agreement, DP World will operate the terminal for a tenure of 15 years and will be authorized to collect handling tariffs from port users.
Meanwhile, opposing the concession deal, several leftist political parties and civic coalitions staged a sit-in demonstration outside the Invest Bangladesh auditorium earlier in the afternoon. The participating groups included the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Basad), Democratic Revolutionary Party, Bangladesh Jasad, Basad (Marxist), Bangladesh Communist Movement, Anti-Imperialism and Anti-War Alliance, Democratic Student Alliance, and the Democratic Rights Committee.
The initiative to lease Chittagong Port’s NCT began under the Awami League administration and gained momentum during the tenure of the interim government. In continuity with those prior processes, the official contract has now been concluded with UAE-based port operator DP World under the current government.
