Controversial Indian Court Hijab Verdict is an ‘Attack on Islam’

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen President Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly condemned the Allahabad High Court’s hijab decision, calling it an ‘attack on Islam’ and a clear violation of Articles 19 and 25 of the Constitution. Speaking in Hyderabad, Mr. Owaisi questioned how higher courts could make decisions about religious activities when the Supreme Court was still considering the Sabarimala issue. He argued that religious beliefs should be respected in educational institutions and advocated the rights of Muslim girls.

Expanding his criticism, Mr. Owaisi said that the Uniform Civil Code of Assam and Uttarakhand was derived from Hindu personal laws such as the Hindu Marriage Act. He questioned the rationale of forcing Muslims to renounce the Quran and Sunnah. He also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strategy and highlighted that this varied nation genuinely belongs to everyone, citing historical perspectives on ‘Vande Mataram’ by Mr. Gandhi, Mr. Tagore, and Mr. Bose.

Mr. Owaisi launched a severe political attack on the RSS and BJP, claiming that its spokesperson defended the Manusmriti while criticizing the Constitution. He said that the RSS had made no contribution to the liberation war and contrasted the sincere sacrifices made by Muslim freedom fighters with V.D. Savarkar’s participation. Mr. Owaisi advised young people to respect constitutional values and called on Muslims to stay loyal to Islamic beliefs while supporting India in becoming a global superpower.
