Country’s first AI film ‘Gap’ awaits release

A new chapter is about to be added to Bangladesh’s cinema. ‘Gap’, the country’s first film made entirely with artificial intelligence (AI) technology, has now received permission for release. The Bangladesh Film Certification Board has cleared the film for screening without any cuts.
The film, directed by Mabrur Rashid Bannah, has been cleared in the short film category. It is also learned that members of the board praised the film after watching it.
The film’s various roles were played by AI visual artist Arc Shihab, director Mabrur Rashid Bannah, Rizvi Riju, Cynthia Yasmin Nupur, Mishti Ghosh, Momena Chowdhury, Saiful Islam Rafi and Jahangir Alam, among others.
Speaking about the film, director Bannah said it is not just a film but a bold experiment in the history of Bengali cinema. He said the plan to make a film entirely dependent on AI technology seemed impossible to many at the outset, but the team kept working. Every scene of the film was created over a long period of hard work using various internationally standard AI technologies.
He added that receiving clearance without any scene being removed is a major recognition for the whole team. He expressed hope that ‘Gap’ will stand as an example that international-standard work is possible even with a limited budget and workforce.
According to the filmmakers, a large part of the film’s screenplay, character creation, animation, background music and visual effects was produced with the help of artificial intelligence. The film, produced by Akbar Haider Munna, is scheduled for release today on the YouTube channel of Club Eleven Entertainment.
