Deputy High Commission warns Bangladeshis travelling to Kolkata

The Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata has advised Bangladeshi citizens traveling to Kolkata for medical treatment and other purposes to confirm hotel bookings before their trip.

The advisory was issued in a notice on Thursday (September 3). Bangladeshis have been cautioned due to changes in the accommodation situation resulting from various measures taken by the local administration following a fire incident in Kolkata on August 19.

The notice states that, before traveling to Kolkata, travelers must confirm their hotel booking, verify whether it is currently operational, whether rooms will be available, and confirm the location.

Those accompanying patients traveling for medical treatment have also been advised to confirm hotel bookings in advance. Additionally, it has been advised to check the distance between the hotel and the hospital, the duration of the booking, and the necessary facilities available.

Following the recent fire incident, the Kolkata administration has temporarily shut down various establishments, including hotels and restaurants, that were found to be risky due to non-compliance with fire safety regulations.

Local authorities have said it may take more than a month for these establishments to reopen after fulfilling safety regulations and legal requirements. Under these circumstances, the Deputy High Commission has specifically requested Bangladeshi citizens not to travel to Kolkata without confirming hotel bookings, in order to avoid facing accommodation problems.
