Full Disclosure of DP World Deal Terms Demanded by Jatiya Mukti Council

Faizul Hakim, central coordinator of the Jatiya Mukti Council, has demanded the public disclosure of all terms of the agreement with Dubai-based DP World to operate the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chattogram Port. He made the demand in a statement sent to the media on Thursday.

Mr. Hakim said the public must be informed of the terms under which the agreement was signed through a public-private partnership (PPP) for the modernisation of the NCT. He stressed the need to clarify the terms of the 15-year agreement and its implications for the country’s interests.

In the statement, he said the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina had prioritised Indian interests at Chattogram and Mongla ports in the name of development. He questioned whether the current BNP government, led by PM Tarique Rahman, had signed the 15-year agreement in the national interest or to serve other interests. He called for the immediate publication of the agreement.

Mr. Hakim also alleged that police used batons and subjected protesters to abuse during a peaceful demonstration held on Thursday in front of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) office. Several alliances and organisations staged the protest against the agreement with DP World. Condemning the incident, Mr. Hakim demanded an end to such police conduct and disciplinary action against those involved in the alleged attack.
