Foundation Stone of Laldia Terminal Laid Today

Finance and Planning Minister, Mr. Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, formally started the project at Laldia Char, enhancing national economic growth goals, building on the strategic momentum of the Laldia Container Terminal opening today. A significant 750 million USD foreign investment from the internationally recognized port operator APM Terminals, which sets a new standard for the development of marine infrastructure in the area, serves as the foundation for such significant growth.
Chittagong Chamber President Mohammad Amirul Haque wrote an official letter to APM Terminals Chairman, Mr. Robert Maersk Uggla, on Wednesday, acknowledging the milestone’s broader economic implications. He underlined that the historic project led by the global maritime leader will improve Bangladesh’s reputation globally as a safe and profitable investment destination and actively encourage further foreign direct investment inflows.
Additionally, the Chamber leadership specifically requested Mr. A.P. Møller-Maersk to expand its commercial presence, taking advantage of Chittagong’s significant geographic advantages and its developing prospects as a regional logistics center. To effectively support the government’s strategic goal of attaining a trillion-dollar economy by 2034, they called for increased contributions toward major national infrastructure objectives, particularly focusing on the Bay Terminal project, modern shipbuilding facilities, and heavy industrial sectors.
