Gazette Issued on Boundaries of 11 Parliamentary Seats, Including Mirza Fakhrul’s Constituency
The Election Commission (EC) has issued a new gazette revising the boundaries of 11 parliamentary constituencies across the country. Newly formed upazilas and union parishads have been incorporated into these constituencies.
Election Commission officials said that although the constituency boundaries have been revised on paper, there will be no actual change in the boundaries on the ground.
The EC published the gazette on Sunday (August 30). The constituencies are Thakurgaon-1, Bogura-2, Pirojpur-1, Mymensingh-10, Brahmanbaria-3 and 4, Cumilla-3, Lakshmipur-2 and 3, Chattogram-2 and Cox’s Bazar-1.
According to the EC gazette, Thakurgaon-1 is the constituency vacated by President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. The constituency, previously comprising Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila, has now been shown as including the newly formed Ruhia and Bhulli upazilas. The two upazilas were created by dividing Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila. They were approved at a meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganization (NICAR) in May.
Mokamtola Upazila has been added to Bogura-2, which previously comprised Shibganj. Mokamtola Upazila was approved at a NICAR meeting in May.
In Mymensingh-10, the newly formed South Gafargaon Upazila has been added to Gafargaon Upazila. The new upazila was approved at a NICAR meeting in July.
In Brahmanbaria-3, Barishal Union Parishad of Akhaura Upazila has been included. Brahmanbaria-4 has been constituted excluding this union parishad.
The new Barishal Union was approved in May after six villages were separated from Basudeb Union of Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila and incorporated into Akhaura Upazila.
In Cumilla-3, Bangra Upazila has been added to Muradnagar Upazila. Bangra Upazila was approved at a NICAR meeting in July.
In Chattogram-2, the newly formed North Fatikchhari Upazila has been added to Fatikchhari Upazila.
In Cox’s Bazar-1, the newly formed Matarbari-Moheshkhali Upazila has been incorporated into the constituency.
