Govt to Buy 110,000 Tonnes of Fertilizer from Three Countries

The government has decided to import 110,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer from Belarus, Morocco and Saudi Arabia. The consignment includes 30,000 metric tonnes of MOP, 40,000 metric tonnes of DAP and 40,000 metric tonnes of urea fertilizer. The proposals were recommended for approval at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held at the Secretariat on Wednesday (September 9), chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

At the meeting, following a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, a proposal to import 30,000 metric tonnes of MOP fertilizer from Belarus through Messrs Sufala Trading Corporation under the private sector was recommended for approval. The price of MOP fertilizer was set at $398.97 per metric tonne. The total purchase price was estimated at $11.9691 million. At an exchange rate of Tk 122.92 per US dollar, the price of the fertilizer stands at Tk 147.20 crore.

In another proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, the committee approved the import of 40,000 metric tonnes of DAP fertilizer from Morocco under a government-to-government (G2G) arrangement. The import will be made under an agreement signed between OCP Nutricrops, S.A. of Morocco and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).

The price of DAP fertilizer was set at $889.33 per metric tonne. The total value in Bangladeshi currency stands at Tk 439 crore, 86 lakh, 26 thousand and 180. Meanwhile, based on a proposal from the Ministry of Industries, the committee approved the import of 40,000 metric tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Saudi Arabia’s SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company for the 2026-27 fiscal year. The price of urea fertilizer was set at $391.66 per metric tonne. The total purchase price stands at Tk 193 crore, 71 lakh, 50 thousand and 360.
