Iran Thanks China for Rejecting US Sanctions

China has strongly disagreed with and rejected the latest round of economic sanctions that the US has placed on Iran. The US Department of the Treasury recently announced a fresh set of sanctions aimed at more than 60 organizations, people, and ships suspected of being involved in Iranian cyber activities, nuclear and missile projects, and oil smuggling. Beijing, Iran’s largest oil customer and most important economic partner, opposed the action, claiming that its strategic and economic collaboration with Tehran is entirely legal, complies with international law, and opposes unilateral sanctions that are not approved by the UN Security Council.

Tehran has expressed appreciation for Beijing’s moral leadership. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf emphasized that the strategic alliance between China and Iran is based on respect for one another and a common vision for a democratic world, stressing that no one’s consent is needed for their connection. In response to ongoing US economic blockades, analysts observe that Tehran is actively using China as a key economic and geopolitical instrument to preserve its place in the international market.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, meanwhile, stated clearly that American attempts to use economic pressure to quiet Tehran will fail once more. Addressing a meeting of economic experts at the central bank, he stated that just as the US failed to achieve its goals through military warfare, it would fail to suppress Iran through economic pressure, adding that domestic preparations and measures would destroy these attempts.
