Iran Will Defend Its Rights Under International Law: Pezeshkian

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed Tehran’s stance on defending its sovereign rights under international law during separate diplomatic ceremonies in Tehran on Tuesday. Receiving the credentials of newly appointed ambassadors from Portugal, Switzerland, Turkey, and Nigeria, he stated that Iran will not yield to external pressure or coercion. Throughout the meetings, Mr. Pezeshkian outlined Iran’s foreign policy framework, emphasized regional cooperation, and addressed international developments while calling for bilateral engagement rooted in justice and fairness.
In his discussion with Portuguese Ambassador Valtier Mathias, Mr. Pezeshkian criticized Western media outlets for broadcasting misleading coverage regarding Iran and its populace. He condemned state terrorism attributed to the United States and Israel, pointing to attacks targeting scientists, schoolchildren, and political figures in the region. Emphasizing national resolve, Mr. Pezeshkian remarked, ‘Iran seeks peace, stability, and a constructive role in regional and international affairs, but will never yield to any power,’ reiterating that adherence to international law is essential to avoiding military conflicts.
Meeting with Swiss Ambassador George Steiner, the president commended Switzerland’s principled stance on global peace and humanitarian issues while advocating for deeper cooperation across shared capabilities. Encouraging Steiner to explore Iran’s rich civilization and historical legacy, Mr. Pezeshkian urged the diplomat to present an authentic picture of the nation to international bodies to counter false narratives. He further noted that constructive international relations must rest on fundamental principles of fairness, mutual respect, and state rights to achieve sustainable stability.
Addressing Turkish Ambassador Ahmet Aydın Doğan, Mr. Pezeshkian highlighted the historical and brotherly ties uniting Iran and Turkey. He denounced Israeli military actions and genocide in the region, accusing the regime of attempting to divide Islamic nations with Western backing. Mr. Pezeshkian asserted that military aggression against Iran had failed, leading adversaries to rely on economic coercion instead. Emphasizing solidarity among neighboring states, he declared, ‘If regional countries work together based on mutual understanding, unity, and solidarity, Israel will fail to achieve its objectives’.
Concluding the diplomatic meetings with Nigerian Ambassador Hamza Mohammad Slawu, Mr. Pezeshkian expressed readiness to deploy all capacities to strengthen bilateral ties between Tehran and Abuja. He welcomed new initiatives to broaden cooperation across various economic and political sectors. Mr. Pezeshkian concluded by noting that global powers genuinely seeking stability must fundamentally transform their approach toward other sovereign nations, reiterating that Iran remains committed to expanding constructive partnerships with countries across Africa, Asia, and Europe on equitable terms.
